The miniVHAN podcast’s new season — our sixth — will offer practical look at the evolving landscape of cancer screening and prevention. We move beyond simple guidelines to explore how new research, policy changes and patient experiences are redefining early detection.

Throughout the five-episode series, clinical experts break down the risk factors that drive screening recommendations, explain how these strategies align with broader population health goals and provide actionable techniques for shared decision-making that respects patient preferences.

When VHAN Care Management team member Cheryl Landis, RN, called a patient who had recently been discharged from the hospital after a stroke, the goal was simple: Make sure she had what she needed to recover safely at home. 

What Cheryl uncovered in that first call, though, was something far more urgent. 

Over the last year, VHAN expanded behavioral health support for our members, making care more accessible, more connected and more responsive to the needs of the people we serve. Earlier this year, the American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association and other organizations published new hypertension guidelines. Learn more about the new guidelines and access hypertension patient education resources on the VHAN Hub Resource Library.

Social work is an integral part of VHAN’s Care Management team, providing a direct connection to patients and caregivers. This was the case with a 64-year-old patient who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and several other conditions. After a hospitalization, the patient moved in with her daughter and husband, but she still needed more help to manage her health at home. That’s when VHAN’s social work care navigators stepped in.  

Members of VHAN’s Antibiotic Stewardship team recently developed QuizTime courses to aid in the treatment of pediatric acute respiratory tract infections such as sinusitis and ear infection. Clinicians earn CME credit for each quiz they complete, and the quizzes are free to both Vanderbilt University Medical Center clinicians and non-VUMC clinicians.
